Why is steampunk so popular?

Steampunk is very odd to newcomers, techno Victorians? Bit strange…

But I personally think that the main reasons for steampunk being so popular is because people can express themselves with what they do, there is no right or wrong with what you can create, its all about complexity and the simplicity, the contrast of those two things are what makes steampunk so popular and interesting to everyone.
